At T2D2, where artificial intelligence is at the core of building facade inspections, success depends not only on the sophistication of the technology but also on how well human teams understand, trust, and collaborate with it. The first step is education. Teams must understand what AI does, how it learns from data, and where its strengths and limitations lie. For instance, T2D2’s AI analyzes large sets of inspection imagery to identify patterns of damage such as cracks, spalls, and rust. Helping inspectors understand how the AI arrives at these detections builds trust in the tool’s reliability and allows them to use it with more confidence. However, training must also stress that AI is not a substitute for human judgment but a support system that makes their work faster, safer, and more thorough. Emphasizing this “human + machine” collaboration helps reduce skepticism and ensures the AI is used to its full potential. Hands-on experience is crucial as real-world case studies, interactive exercises, and live demonstrations help translate theoretical knowledge into practical skill. This approach not only improves technical competence but also highlights where workflows can be optimized. Ongoing feedback loops are equally important. When teams regularly report on the AI’s accuracy and usability in the field, edits can be made to the software platform, accelerating performance and improving user satisfaction over time. Creating a culture of openness around AI adoption is the final, often overlooked, piece. Leaders need to communicate clearly about why the technology is being introduced, what benefits it brings, and how each team member plays a role in its success. Encouraging a mindset of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous learning will go a long way in helping teams embrace AI as a valuable partner rather than a disruptive force.
